Is Made in Abyss season 1 disturbing? ›

“Made In Abyss” is heavily censored in Korea with PG15 ratings. Almost all adult like content was removed from the anime. Many Koreans state that they enjoyed the plot of the anime and were unaware that there were problematic scenes.

It could mean that the Abyss is deepening and the world above is sinking into it, thus making it into a new layer. From there, a new surface world would be created and the cycle would continue. Judging by the praying skeletons in each Layer, this seems to happen once every 2000 years.

Kinema Citrus, the production house behind the anime, has officially renewed the series for a third season, but the lack of manga materials has delayed production. Typically, the production would require at least twenty chapters for a full-fledged season with 12 episodes.

After an exchange of blows, Reg instructs Riko to blow her whistle. This triggers an activation in Reg resulting in him emitting a white glow with enhanced speed. Faputa curses at Riko for using Prushka against her and reveals it was her who instructed Gaburoon to bring the stone into the village.

Reg is a cyborg (his organs where replaced with relic but he kept his human soul).

Made in Abyss is not just about the grotesque body horror, but also explores deep and disturbing emotional turmoil, making it too intense and unsettling for children. Adults should watch it to appreciate the complex narrative and the mysteries it presents.

While it starts out as a run-of-the-mill fantasy anime, the darker and problematic themes start to set in as the show progresses.

Most Anime like this are fine for ages 13 and up. There really isn't much explicitly sexual or mature content in Made in Abyss other than the occasional disturbing scenes and the few urine scenes sprinkled throughout. I'd say its safe enough for a 15 year old to watch.

There's not much of a difference between Season 1 and the two recap movies, Journey's Dawn and Wandering Twilight, but you'll absolutely need to watch the third movie to get all caught up.
